+ An Award Winning Floating Burger Bar
WELCOME ON BOARD
Coffee Afloat is a floating cafe servicing Lake Dunstan and the Lake Dunstan Cycle & Walking Trail.
Barista coffee, cold drinks, ice creams, fresh baking and snacks half way from Cromwell to Clyde at the base of the Cairnmuir Ladder.
Based in Cromwell, Central Otago, New Zealand.
If you you're planning a big group ride, we always appreciate a heads up so please contact us so we can make sure we are stocked up for you all.
Our takeaway coffee cups and lids are 100% paper, free from PLA and plastic, and are biodegradable.
Cromwell's local worm farm - Central Wormworx - makes compost out of your cup and lid once you've finished with it if you place it in our onboard recycling bin.
We love to support local and use local produce whenever and wherever possible:
Gabi from The Kitchen Garden from Bannockburn does the fresh baking - muffins, slices, biscuits and scrolls.
Nikki and the team at Grid Coffee Roasters in Dunedin are behind the fresh beans of goodness in your cuppa
POWERED BY SOLAR & BATTERY
In keeping with the beautiful location we operate in and in keeping with our surroundings, we run the coffee machine, grinder and fridges on solar and battery power.
LAKE DUNSTAN TRAIL
Cyclists and walkers experiencing the 55km Lake Dunstan Cycle & Walking Trail will marvel at the man-made landscapes, the rich Maori and early pioneer history, and amble through the vineyards of Bannockburn.
The region’s rich modern, pioneering and Maori historical stories are integrated along the way, some of which are brought to life in the Clyde and Cromwell Historical Precinct.
And of course, coffee is needed along the way to keep riders fueled in the Cromwell Gorge section of the trail...
Check out this Stuff Travel article of what's been termed NZ's most spectacular bike ride.
Meet The Team
Richard and Jolanda Foale are the masterminds behind Coffee Afloat and Burger Afloat.
Having been photo models for the official Lake Dunstan Trail marketing material, they quickly realised there needed to be a coffee stop en route.
Fast forward to the opening of the trail and they were ready to provide cyclists and walkers with caffeine and snacks.
They are supported by an amazing team of baristas who love serving you with a smile and have a chat about your adventure.
